Whether you are completely new to homeopathy or looking for a new practitioner, this page covers what you need to know before you get in touch.
What is a homeopathic consultation like?
A first appointment with a homeopath is usually unhurried and in-depth, typically lasting between one and two hours. Your homeopath will want to understand you as a whole person, not just the condition that has brought you there. You can expect to be asked about your physical symptoms, your emotional wellbeing, your sleep, your energy levels, your history and your daily life.
This thoroughness is not incidental. It is central to how homeopathy works. The aim is to understand your individual experience, not just your diagnosis.
Follow-up appointments are usually shorter and focus on how you have responded to treatment and what adjustments, if any, are needed.
How much does it cost?
Fees vary between practitioners. As a general guide, initial consultations with a fully qualified homeopath typically range from around 60 to 100 pounds, with follow-up appointments at a lower rate. Some practitioners charge more, some less.
If budget is a consideration, our Low Cost Clinic connects patients with advanced student homeopaths at significantly reduced rates.
Your matched homeopath will discuss fees with you before you commit to an appointment.
In person or Zoom?
Both are available through the Similia network. Many patients find Zoom works well for homeopathic consultations because so much of the work is conversational. Others prefer the in person experience, particularly for a first appointment.
If you have a strong preference either way, tell us in the enquiry form and we will match you accordingly. If you are flexible, we will factor in both options when finding the best match.
How many appointments will I need?
There is no single answer to this. It depends on your individual situation, how long you have been dealing with your concern and how you respond to treatment. A good homeopath will be honest with you about this at your first appointment and will not encourage you to commit to a programme of sessions before you know how things are going.
Is homeopathy safe?
When practised by a qualified, registered homeopath, homeopathy is generally considered safe. Homeopathic remedies are prepared to a very high dilution and are not known to cause harm or interact with conventional medication.
It is important to tell your GP that you are seeing a homeopath, and equally important never to stop or reduce prescribed medication without first speaking to your GP.
What if it does not work?
Homeopathy is not right for everyone, and not every practitioner is right for every patient. If you do not feel the match is working, tell us. We will help you find someone else or, if we think a different kind of support might serve you better, we will say so.
What if I need urgent help?
Similia is a matching service, not a clinical service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 999. If you need urgent mental health support, contact your GP or call the Samaritans on 116 123. We are not the right first port of call in a crisis.
